This post will show you the easiest way to install WordPress on your Ubuntu server or VPS. If you need a VPS, please check out vultr by using that link, so we get some money if you sign up(to help us pay for this site). Anyways, I recommend you run this on a clean install of Ubuntu, but you don’t have to. I designed my script to ask you if you have a backup if there is already database or web hosting software installed, in case it overwrites your current config. If you aren’t hosting anything important, and want the script to overwrite it, simply type y to override, and be sure to take a snapshot before you install, just to be sure.
Anyways, we will be installing WordPress with the script I made on my GitHub repository. You can clone the whole repository, or just get the WordPress installer with:
Then run the script as root, with:
sudo bash WordPress.sh
and follow the prompts(just read, press ‘y’ and enter), and my script will do most of the work. I designed it to not use a specific version, but to grab the latest version available. It generates a random, long password for the database, and grabs the salts using the WordPress recommended method. It even gives you your IP address, so you can get your install running as fast as possible.
After my script is done, simply go to your IP or domain name, and follow the WordPress setup, and start blogging! Please let me know what you think of my script in the comments below, and share your blog URL for free advertising(to our three users)!
If you want to do it yourself, I suggest that you follow this guide, as it is the one I based my script off of.
